Glasgow Studio | August 2026 – August/September 2027
Holmes Miller is looking for enthusiastic and motivated Part 1 Architectural Assistants to join our Glasgow studio for year out placements, starting in early August 2026.
This is a great opportunity to spend a year working within a supportive, design‑led practice, gaining hands‑on experience on real projects, developing your skills and confidence, and returning to university in August / September 2027 with a strong foundation for Part 2.
About the roles
As part of our Glasgow team, you will support architects and architectural assistants across a range of live projects within the education, sport and leisure, residential, justice and wider public sectors. You’ll be involved in day‑to‑day architectural practice, contributing to design development, drawings and visual material while learning how projects progress in a professional studio environment.
These roles are fully supported and tailored to Part 1 level, with guidance from experienced team members throughout your year with us.

Key responsibilities
You will assist with:
Design development and concept work
Preparation of drawings, diagrams and presentation material
Production of 3D models and visualisations
Research to support design and technical development
General project and studio support as part of wider project teams
Who we are looking for
We are looking for Part 1 Architectural Assistants who:
Have successfully completed RIBA Part 1 (or equivalent)
Demonstrate strong design ability and graphic communication skills
Have experience using Autodesk Revit, or are keen to develop these skills
Are comfortable using Adobe Creative Suite and 3D modelling software
Enjoy working collaboratively and communicating ideas clearly
Are organised, enthusiastic and keen to learn
