Holmes Miller heads to Learning Places Scotland 2026

We’re heading to Learning Places Scotland on 3 November, with plenty happening for Holmes Miller across both the conference and awards.

During the day, Associate Ruaridh Nicol will join the Campfire session ‘From Policy to Practice: Delivering Net Zero Schools’, sharing our experience from the new Faifley Campus in West Dunbartonshire.

Designed to Passivhaus standards and to meet the Net Zero Public Sector Buildings Standard, Faifley brings together two primary schools, early learning and childcare, a community library, community spaces and an Education Resource Centre within a new shared campus.

Ruaridh will share some of the practical lessons from the project, from applying NZPSBS alongside Passivhaus principles to collaboration with the wider design and construction team. He’ll be joined by Ingrid Berkeley, Associate Director at Scottish Futures Trust, who will explore the Net Zero Public Sector Buildings Standard and how it applies across the learning estate.

The celebrations continue into the evening, where Drumgeith Community Campus in Dundee has been shortlisted for two Learning Places Scotland Awards: Project of the Year and Pupil/Student Experience.

Designed by Holmes Miller for Dundee City Council and delivered with Robertson Construction Tayside, Drumgeith provides a new home for Greenfield Academy alongside education, community, sports and cultural facilities. One of Scotland’s largest buildings delivered to Passivhaus Classic standards, the campus combines ambitious sustainability targets with a strong focus on inclusion, wellbeing and community use.

Joanne Hemmings and Steven Coulson led the design and delivery of Drumgeith for Holmes Miller, and both will be there on the night to celebrate the project and the wider team behind it.

We’re looking forward to catching up with clients, collaborators and colleagues from across Scotland’s learning estate, sharing what we’ve learned and hearing where the sector goes next.
