Holmes Miller - Leeds | We're Hiring
Project Architect / Part 2 Architectural Assistant
Leeds Studio
Holmes Miller is looking for technically focused Project Architects and Part 2 Architectural Assistants to join our Leeds studio at an early stage of its development.
This is an opportunity to help establish and grow a new regional studio while being fully supported by our established teams in Glasgow and St Albans. You will be part of a collaborative, design‑led practice delivering complex public sector projects across the UK.
We are particularly interested in candidates with Department for Education (DfE) schools experience to support a number of upcoming education projects.
About the role
Holmes Miller is an award‑winning architectural practice delivering education, sport and leisure, residential, justice and civic projects across the UK.
Our work includes new‑build and refurbishment schools, leisure centres, community wellbeing hubs, residential developments and justice sector facilities. We are looking for individuals who enjoy contributing to well‑resolved design solutions and supporting projects across all RIBA work stages, from early design through to construction.
You will work as part of a project team contributing to design development, technical coordination, BIM delivery and project delivery through construction. The role offers exposure to a broad range of project stages and responsibilities appropriate to experience.
While based in Leeds, you will work closely with colleagues in Glasgow and St Albans, benefiting from shared technical standards, mentoring and cross‑studio collaboration.
Studio environment
Our studios operate as collaborative and supportive teams where staff are encouraged to take ownership of their work and contribute positively to project delivery.
Team members engage directly with clients, consultants and contractors, gaining hands‑on experience across design development, technical coordination and construction stage support. For candidates joining Leeds, this role offers the chance to help shape a studio culture from the outset, with the backing of an established practice and leadership team.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking Project Architects and Part 2 Architectural Assistants who are comfortable working across the full project lifecycle, from early design work through to on‑site delivery.
DfE schools experience is highly desirable, and candidates with demonstrable involvement in the design and delivery of education projects will be prioritised.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in design development, technical design and detailing, BIM‑based workflows, and working collaboratively with consultants and contractors. Experience within education, sport and leisure, residential, justice or the wider public sector is advantageous.
Role focus (depending on experience)
Project Architects
Project Architects will typically take responsibility for the day‑to‑day delivery of projects under Director oversight. This will include leading aspects of design development, coordinating consultant inputs, managing technical delivery and supporting projects through construction. As the Leeds studio grows, Project Architects will play an active role in shaping project teams and supporting less‑experienced colleagues.
Part 2 Architectural Assistants
Part 2 Architectural Assistants will support projects across all stages, from early design through to on‑site delivery. The role offers broad exposure to design development, technical coordination and BIM workflows, with opportunities to build confidence working with consultants, contractors and clients as experience develops. The position is intended to support progression towards Part 3 and increased responsibility.
When applying, please ensure your CV and portfolio clearly highlight
The range of RIBA work stages you have contributed to, your specific role within design development and project delivery, and any direct experience delivering DfE school projects or education schemes.
Key skills and experience
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate sound design and technical capability appropriate to experience, have experience working across multiple RIBA stages, and be proficient in Autodesk Revit with experience of BIM collaboration. A working knowledge of UK Building Regulations and technical standards is expected. Experience using AutoCAD and NBS Chorus is desirable.
Strong communication, coordination and organisational skills are important, along with an ability to work collaboratively within a supportive studio environment. A full UK driving licence is desirable.
