Bower Care Home completes in Linlithgow

Bower Care Home has opened its doors in Linlithgow, marking the completion of Holmes Miller’s latest care project with Morrison Community Care Group and CCG (Scotland).

The new 60-bedroom home provides residential, nursing and dementia care, creating an environment designed around the everyday needs of residents, families and staff.

A care home needs to work on many levels: as a home for residents, a place for families to visit, a workplace for staff and a good neighbour within its wider community. That thinking has shaped the design of Bower Care Home.

The design balances the practical requirements of care delivery with the qualities that make somewhere feel like home. Natural light, comfort, familiarity, accessibility and choice have been central to the approach, alongside spaces that encourage social interaction and connection while providing opportunities for privacy and quiet.

Residents have access to a range of shared spaces and amenities, creating opportunities to meet, relax and spend time with family and friends. Together, these spaces help establish a welcoming and domestic character while supporting the day-to-day operation of the home.

The wider setting has also been important. Developed on a previously underused brownfield site close to Linlithgow town centre, Bower brings the site back into active use while delivering much-needed care provision and new employment within the local community.

Rather than operating as an isolated institution, the design seeks to create a residential environment that feels connected to the wider town and community.

Bower continues Holmes Miller’s work with Morrison Community Care Group and CCG (Scotland), developing care environments that respond to changing needs while remaining welcoming places to live, visit and work.

The completed project reinforces a simple principle: good care environments should feel like places to live rather than institutions, supporting dignity, independence, wellbeing and connection.
