York Community Stadium
Holmes Miller was appointed in 2009 by City of York Council as part of a consultant team to develop proposals for a new Community Stadium for York. The commission included: feasibility study for the community stadium including community sports, education, health / well-being facilities and a hotel.
This commission was extended to include the development of a project brief, with further client technical advice through to the outline planning application and contractor procurement strategy.
A further commission in 2012 included developing concept design for a community stadium and hub complex. The proposals will provide an extensive and exciting range of community facilities. Not only will the scheme provide a new stadium of York, it will also includes refurbishment of the leisure facilities, a new library, a child’s play facility, crèche as well as an extensive range of community health and learning facilities. This will result in one of the country’s most exciting and far reaching community stadium project that embraces all aspects of Health + Wellbeing, and is truly inclusive.
Key to developing a design for a community stadium and hub facility was understanding the various user groups, building tenants, and identification of spaces that can serve multiple functions. This will ensure that a number of important services can be delivered in an economic and efficient manner whilst creating n facility that is inspirational and encourages collaboration and creativity.
Final concept design has provided the City of York with a vision to take to the market place to procure a design, build, manage and operate team for the Community Stadium and Hub facility
