Glasgow 2014 - Hampden Park
Holmes Miller were Architects and Design Team
Leaders for the project which saw the transformation
of Hampden Park into a world class Athletics venue
that was the centrepiece of the XX Commonwealth
Games, held in Glasgow in the summer of 2014.
Hampden Park was transformed by the installation
of a temporary 400 metre synthetic running
track and natural grass infield, constructed
on a structural platform suspended above the
level of the existing football playing surface.
The adjacent facility at Lesser Hampden, the
Queen’s Park Football Club Training ground,
was also temporarily upgraded to provide
a warm up area for track and field athletes.
After the Games, the temporary facilities
were removed and the existing facilities at
Hampden & Lesser Hampden reinstated.
