Renfrew Health & Social Work Centre

Holmes Miller’s award winning multi-use Renfrew Health & Social Work Centre represents the ‘HUB’ model of co-locating and joint working relationships between multiple service providers.

The Centre benefits the local community with a new building which demonstrates the increasing expectations of health and social work professionals, patients and the general public and adding to an optimistic and positive image for the future of Renfrew.
The new Centre brings together a variety of health and social work services under the one roof for the first time. It is home to all of Renfrew’s GP practices plus a range of health services including a general dental service, physiotherapy, audiology, podiatry, speech and language therapy, out patient clinics and community nursing, as well as the Learning Disability Team for all of Renfrewshire and Renfrew Social Work services.

The building was designed around an internal street flooded with natural daylight that provides order and hierarchy to the building functions and wayfinding with clear vertical and horizontal circulation. Good use and clear definition of circulation, waiting space and receptions ensures individual departments and consultation areas are securely self-contained, a model that not only enables maximum patient privacy and security, but also allows the main circulation within the building to remain independently open and accessible.
Our design approach has provided the local neighbourhood with a well-modelled building which fosters an atmosphere of community ownership, pride and a sense of place.
