Jedburgh Health Centre

Holmes Miller was appointed as Lead Consultant, to redevelop and form a state-of-the-art community health centre, providing improved facilities for the Jedburgh Medical Practice and the wider community healthcare team based in Jedburgh.

The building is located within an Outstanding Conservation Area adjacent to several A Listed buildings requiring an appropriate and sympathetic solution to be developed through close consultation with the client, the Planning Department and Historic Scotland. Recognising that the new building needed to generate a strong civic presence, Holmes Miler took full advantage of the strong visual relationship between the Castle, the Abbey and the site to develop a design solution which enhances and respects the local environment. The end result is a contemporary and sustainable reflection of the traditional local vernacular architecture and style.

Project follows the HAI-SCRIBE Implementation Strategy provided by Health Facilities Scotland (HFS) to assist in the prevention and control of infection, within the built healthcare environment.

Holmes Miller’s approach to healthcare facilities today is to ensure that they are designed to support and facilitate state-of-the-art medicine and technology, patient safety and quality patient care, but also to embrace the patients and their caregivers in a psycho-socially supportive therapeutic environment.
