Glasgow Schools

Holmes Miller, working for 3ED since 1998, bid the Glasgow Secondary Schools Project and was awarded the contract by Glasgow City Council in 2000, it is still the biggest education public private partnership (PPP) project in the UK. The Glasgow Schools contract is a best practice blueprint for all Scottish educational PPP projects.

Completed in 2002, Glasgow Schools Public Private Partnership was a major project to modernise the city’s secondary school estate.

Problems of surplus accommodation, poor condition of the existing buildings and worn out services have been addressed in all 29 secondary schools across the city (pupil population of 30,000) – The result a first class secondary school estate in Glasgow, 12 new-builds and 8 extension/refurbishments, along with the refurbishment of the remaining nine schools in the estate – with all schools now benefitting from new or refurbished accommodation.

A new joint primary/pre-school campus & Scotland’s first school dedicated to sporting excellence were also built under the deal.
