Edinburgh Schools

The Edinburgh Schools PPP1 contract consists of 18 educational establishments – primary and secondary schools, SEN schools, a Secure and Close Support Unit and a Community Centre. Each of these buildings has been designed with features unique to the requirements of their users.

This has involved a number of amalgamations as well as two examples of shared campuses for denominational and non-denominational primary schools.

Each school is designed around a number of principles, including class base wings with large activity areas, suited office and management accommodation, and bright multi-functional rooms that can meet the varied requirements of the primary curriculum.
Most of the primary schools in the estate are equipped with an outdoor all-weather pitch to enable pupils to play sports all year round if desired. There are four educational facilities included in the project with specific design requirements. Three of these are schools for young people with particular needs, and one is a community centre which is run by the Council’s Community Education Department.

The project replaces old, out-dated and poorly maintained stock with modern accommodation, fully equipped to deliver the educational curriculum of the 21st century.
