Cocoa Works, York

In 2006 Nestlé UK Ltd commissioned Holmes Miller to develop a Masterplan for the redevelopment of land and property associated with their existing facilities in York.

The site is historically associated with the manufacture of confectionary and cocoa, being the main production site for Nestlé Rowntree (and its previous companies in York) since 1890 when it was first developed by Joseph Rowntree as the Cocoa Works.

Our vision for the site is to create a new live/work community that will integrate with neighbouring existing communities. The development will contain a mix of uses and achieve high standards of design, public space and sustainability. Imaginative urban design with safe and attractive pedestrian/cycle routes will help to create a sense of place where low car use principles will be embraced.

Detailed Planning Consent in respect of the retained buildings within the Conservation Area and Outline Planning Consent for the overall Masterplan was granted in January 2011.
