Johnstone Town Hall

The new Johnstone Town Hall is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the regeneration of Johnstone town centre, consolidating existing services into a modern community facility.

At the edge of the shopping precinct and overlooking the leafy Ludovic Square, the building concept is derived from the architectural heritage and existing townscape of Johnstone, with particular reference to the engineering and cotton industries. The mass of the building is broken into a cluster of blocks complimented by a series of pitched roofs reflecting the plan form and rich variety of functions within. A top lit double height internal street on an east / west axis connects the internal spaces and reflects the vibrancy of the varying functions, providing opportunity for community interaction. The street also provide a canvas for display of art work developed with the community.

The new facility will co-locate council services including Customer Services, Housing, Social Work, Advice Works and the Registration Services as well as a Police station into a centralised location. The local community will benefit from a variety of spaces including; multi-purpose Town Hall with catering kitchen, Marriage Suite, Library with McMillan Cancer Support, multi-functional community spaces and community café.
